A Los Angeles man who was found dead in his car after a traffic accident in Gardena Sunday night was shot in the head moments before the crash, police said Thursday.
Steven Lambert, 32, was found dead after his car raced into traffic from a bank parking lot on Redondo Beach Boulevard in Gardena about 10:30 p.m. and struck two cars.
Police had originally considered the death an accident. Later, the death was reclassified as a homicide when it was discovered that a bullet had entered Lambert’s head above his left ear shortly before the crash. An autopsy will be performed in the next few days.
Police said Lambert had withdrawn money from the automatic teller machine at Security Pacific Bank minutes before the accident. Officers speculated he could have been shot during a bungled robbery attempt.
