DIGEST : Valley’s Rumfola to Play for CS Northridge Women

Christine Rumfola, a second-team All-Western State Conference guard for Valley College, has orally committed to Cal State Northridge, Valley Coach Doug Michelson said.

Rumfola, a 5-foot-8 sophomore from Burbank High, averaged 9.6 points a game for state semifinalist Valley (30-6).

Rumfola’s teammate, Sandrine Rocher, a 5-10 all-state forward from North Hollywood, has made an oral commitment to Cal State San Bernardino, Michelson said.

Rocher was the leading scorer for Valley with a 15.5 average.

Moorpark College’s Vince Plymire, a two-time state heavyweight wrestling champion and starting defensive lineman in football, has signed a letter of intent to compete in both sports at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Moorpark wrestling Coach John Keever said.

Basketball player Larry Allbritton of College of the Canyons has committed to Hawaii-Loa, Canyons Coach Lee Smelser said. Allbritton, a 6-4 sophomore from Canyon High, was honorable mention All-WSC and likely will be a shooting guard at Hawaii-Loa.

Stephanie Keeler, a catcher on the Hart High softball team, has orally committed to attend Hawaii.

Keeler is the second Hart player to commit to Hawaii, joining pitcher Kym Weil. The next signing period for high school seniors begins April 11.

Sixth-ranked Cal State Northridge (11-7, 6-5 in conference play) can clinch its first berth in the Western Intercollegiate Volleyball Assn. playoffs by defeating UC Irvine (6-11) tonight in the CSUN gym. The match begins at 7:30.

Farron Fields of Northridge placed 11th in a 5,000-meter road race in Carlsbad last weekend. He was timed in 13 minutes 51 seconds.

The Racquet Centre of Universal City will stage the Southern California Tennis Assn. Senior Sectional Invitational Championships today through April 8.

Area players vying for the 41 men’s and women’s titles include Jacques Manset of Ventura, Art Santilli of Camarillo, Jurgen Janson of Westlake Village, Niesi Sie of Tarzana, Gordon Davis of Encino, Tom Springer of Canoga Park, Jack Simpson of Van Nuys, and Rae Murbach of Glendale.
