THE SIDELINES : Virus Sidelines Cyclist LeMond
World cycling champion Greg LeMond will be out of action for at least a month because of an unidentified viral infection, his French team Z said today.
“Blood tests have shown traces of a virus, and we have asked for further tests to be carried out. Greg will anyway miss all the spring classics in Europe,” team manager Michel Laurent said.
He said LeMond, winner of last year’s Tour de France, had gone back to the United States to rest and would probably resume cycling there May 6 in the Tour de Trump before returning to Europe for the Giro d’Italia.
