COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Mota, Short Power Fullerton’s Victory

Gary Mota and Jim Short hit solo home runs to help Fullerton College break a six-game losing streak with a 7-4 victory over Saddleback in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game Tuesday at Fullerton.

Jeff Manship added two hits and two RBIs for Fullerton (17-9, 8-6 in conference). Steve Trachsel (7-2) allowed only one earned run over nine innings for the victory. Buster Nietzke had four hits for Saddleback (3-12, 9-15).

In other Orange Empire Conference baseball games:

Rancho Santiago 7, Cypress 3--Matt Lackie (8-2) pitched 6 1/3 innings for the victory for first-place Rancho Santiago (23-5, 12-3). Marty Neff had four hits with three runs and Conrad Colby hit a solo home run.

Doug McConathy had three hits, including a home run and a triple and is nine of his last 15. Jason Bates had three hits for Cypress (16-13, 5-9).

Golden West 9, Riverside 8--Gerad Cawhorn walked with the bases loaded in the eighth to break an 8-8 tie for host Golden West. Jon Orcher had four hits including a two-run home run that gave Golden West a 5-0 lead in the second inning.

Frank Herman had three hits and Cawhorn had two hits and three RBIs for second-place Golden West (19-6, 10-5).
