Four South Bay players, including two from West Torrance High School, have been named to the All-Southern Section Division II girls basketball team by members of the First Interstate Bank/Amateur Athletic Foundation board of sportswriters.
West Torrance guard Rosa Olloque and North Torrance center Laura Collins were repeat selections on the All-Division II first team. Junior guard Lily Cabaleiro of Bishop Montgomery also made the squad.
West guard Mary Litzenberg earned second-team honors.
Olloque averaged 22 points a game, leading West to a second-place finish behind Morningside in the Ocean League and a berth in the Southern Section 4-A finals. The Warriors lost to La Quinta of Westminster, 72-62, in the title game.
Collins, a 6-foot senior who signed early with UCLA, averaged 25.1 points and 15.4 rebounds to lead North to a third-place finish in the Ocean League and a spot in the 4-A quarterfinals. She was the Most Outstanding Player in the league.
Cabaleiro was the floor leader for surprising Bishop Montgomery, which reached the 4-A semifinals after finishing second in the Angelus League. The 5-6 point guard averaged 16.4 points.
Litzenberg, Olloque’s back-court mate at West, averaged 16 points a game and was the Warriors’ leading rebounder and three-point shooter.
Amy Jalewalia, a 6-1 center for 4-A champion La Quinta, was named Division II Player of the Year. Like Collins, she signed early with UCLA.
