PREP SOFTBALL ROUNDUP : Clark Pitches Two-Hitter in No. 1 Mater Dei’s Victory

Jennifer Clark’s two-hitter led top-ranked Mater Dei High School to a 2-0 victory over Bishop Montgomery in an Angelus League softball game Thursday at Bishop Montgomery.

Clark (9-0) struck out 11 for Mater Dei (14-2, 3-0).

In the Century League:

Foothill 7, El Modena 0--Leeann Gonzalez pitched a three-hitter, struck out three and walked none, to lead visiting Foothill (8-6, 1-0). Villa Park 3, Canyon 1--Jen Raworth’s two-run triple in the fifth inning broke a scoreless tie to lead host Villa Park (7-8-1, 2-0).

In the Empire League:

Cypress 1, Los Alamitos 0--Beth Howard pitched a two-hitter to lead Cypress (14-4, 2-0) at Los Alamitos. Howard (13-2) struck out seven.

In the Freeway League:

Sunny Hills 3, La Habra 2--Bernie Fancuberta pitched a four-hitter, striking six and walking one, and allowed on earned run for host Sunny Hills (5-9, 1-1).

Fullerton 7, Troy 0--Cathleen Kennedy (6-4) pitched a one-hitter, and went three for four, for Fullerton (8-6, 2-0) at home.

Buena Park 7, Sonora 1--Shannon Akau (9-1) struck out 11 and gave up five hits for the victory at Sonora.

In the Olympic League:

Santa Margarita 8, Ontario Christian 0--Katie Beattie pitched a three-hit shutout, striking 12 and walking two to lead host Santa margarita (9-1, 6-1). Michelle Mathot had three hits and had five RBIs and stole three bases.

Whittier Christian 3, Capistrano Valley 2--Veronica Martinez pitched a four-hitter to lead Whittier Christian (8-4, 3-2) at Capistrano Valley Christian. Martinez (5-3) struck out seven.

In the Orange League:

Brea-Olinda 14, Anaheim 5--Natalie Stevens had three hits and three RBIs, Kim Beck had three hits and Michelle Monroe had three hits and scored four runs to lead visiting Brea-Olinda (8-6, 1-1).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Woodbridge 12, Orange 0--Alisha Nelson (5-7) pitched a three-hitter, striking out 11, for Woodbridge (6-8, 2-0) at Orange.

Trabuco Hills 11, Laguna Hills 1--Amy Rodriguez, Linda Lunceford and Christy Lunceford each homered four host Trabuco Hills (10-4, 2-0). Brianna Durkman threw a one-hitter for five innings.

In the Sea View League:

Newport Harbor 7, Corona del Mar 2--Tina Rodriguez drove in three runs and Stacey Giem two to lead host Newport Harbor (4-5, 1-1).

Tustin 5, University 0--Shannon Ellis (6-3) struck out 10 in a no-hitter. She was two outs from a perfect game when a batter reached second base on an error. Tustin is 7-4, 2-0. Ellis had two hits and one RBI. University is 6-7, 0-2. Saddleback 10, Estancia 0 (4 1/2 innings, mercy rule)--Desi Abrego pitched a no-hitter, striking out 13 and walking none but an error in the fourth inning broke up a perfect game. Claudia Rodriguez had two hits and three RBIs to lead host Saddleback (11-1, 2-0). Estancia is 1-1 in league.

In the South Coast League:

Irvine 2, San Clemente 1--Erica Koch broke a scoreless tie with a two-out, two-run double in the top of the sixth for Irvine (12-2, 2-0) at San Clemente. Jennifer Brundage (11-2) pitched a two-hitter, striking out 10, and allowed only an unearned run in the sixth.

Mission Viejo 1, Capistrano Valley 0--Kerin Dull (10-2) pitched a two-hitter, striking out two and walking one to lead visiting Mission Viejo (10-3, 2-0).
