PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Santiago Rallies, Beats Bolsa Grande

Adrian Bordon had an RBI double in the eighth inning and David Smith followed with a run-scoring single to give Santiago High School a 5-3 victory over Bolsa Grande in a Garden Grove League baseball game Friday at Bolsa Grande.

Marco Perez had a two-run single in the seventh to tie it, 3-3, for Santiago (11-5, 5-1 in league play). Phil Gonzales (2-2) pitched 2 1/3 innings with two strikeouts and two walks for the victory.

Lewis Cerda had three hits and scored twice and Rick Tantardini had three hits for Bolsa Grande (2-9-1, 0-6).

In other Garden Grove League games:

Garden Grove 1, Kennedy 0--Left-hander Joe Aguirre (2-2) pitched a two-hitter with six strikeouts for host Garden Grove, which has allowed only an unearned run in its last 18 innings.

Kennedy’s only threat came in the seventh, when Craig Roah opened with a double. But Garden Grove first baseman Jim Austin made a diving catch of a bunt attempt and threw to second to complete a double play.

Garden Grove’s run came in the fourth. Donnie Johnson had a leadoff double, was sacrificed to third and scored on a infield single by Shawn Zingali. Garden Grove is 5-5, 3-3.

Pacifica 6, Rancho Alamitos 0--Right-hander Danny Meaders (3-1) pitched a two-hitter with eight strikeouts for host Pacifica (8-6, 3-3).

In the Angelus League:

Mater Dei 6, Servite 4 (9 innings)--Cale Carter singled with one out and the bases loaded in the top of the ninth to score Doug DeJardin and Shawn Wins’ sacrifice fly scored Lionel Hastings to lead Mater Dei (10-3, 4-1).

Servite is 8-5, 2-3.

In the Empire League:

Cypress 9, Los Alamitos 3--Bill Scwab (1-1) pitched 4 1/3 innings for the victory and John Homan pitched the final 2 2/3 innings for the save. David Dzurilla hit a three-run home run in the second inning as Cypress took a 7-2 lead. Jesse Herrera had a two-run single, a sacrifice fly, and scored two runs for Cypress (2-12, 1-6).

In the Freeway League:

Troy 4, Sunny Hills 2--Guy Pinelli pitched a complete game and also had two hits to lead Troy (3-5, 3-3) at Sunny Hills. Pinelli allowed seven hits but didn’t walk a batter. Ryan Helmle gave the Warriors a 1-0 lead with a home run in the second. Steve Friedrich had an RBI single in the third for Troy.

Sonora 6, Buena Park 2 (10 innings)--Ryan Lewis singled with the bases loaded to give Sonora a 3-2 lead in the 10th at Buena Park. Sonora (6-6, 4-3) got a run on an error and scored two more on an RBI single by Marcos Pando in the 10th. Scott Oxarart (4-3) got the victory in relief.

In the Olympic League:

Whittier Christian 15, Valley Christian 8--Justin Bohannon and Darin Halverson each had three hits and two RBIs for host Whittier Christian (10-1, 6-0). Butch Bucher and Brent Tucker hit home runs for Whittier Christian.

Orange Lutheran 7, Whitney 4--Matt Hendren’s two-run double in the fifth broke a 3-3 tie for host Orange Lutheran (9-3, 5-1). Hendren (3-1) also had a complete-game victory. Phil Matheson had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs for Orange Lutheran.

Santa Margarita 7, Capistrano Valley Christian 6--James McGrath had a two-run double to tie it, 6-6, and Trevor Yankoff had an RBI single to give host Santa Margarita (5-7, 2-4) a 7-6 lead.

In the Sunset League:

Ocean View 7, Westminster 2--Kevin Bill had three hits and four RBIs and Randy Karliner had two triples and scored twice to lead visiting Ocean View (12-2, 7-0). Micah Edwardson had two hits and homered to lead off the third inning for Ocean View. Chris Larson had two hits and one RBI for host Westminster (7-6, 2-5).

Marina 5, Huntington Beach 0--Sean Patterson pitched a five-hitter, struck out three and walked none to lead host Marina (6-7-1, 4-3). Dave Schultz had two hits, scored and had one RBI for Marina. James Marietti had two hits for Huntington Beach (9-6, 4-3).

Fountain Valley 9, Edison 2--Dave Dardis had a hit, drove in three and scored three and Joe Penaflor had two hits and scored two runs for host Fountain Valley (5-9, 2-5). Derek Fahs (2-3) pitched six innings with seven strikeouts for the victory.

In the Academy League:

Liberty Christian 4, California Lutheran 2--Chris Buckels (4-0) had 11 strikeouts and allowed four hits for Liberty Christian (11-4, 4-0) at Hart Park in Orange.
