Voorhees Holds 4-Stroke Lead After Shooting 71

Heidi Voorhees, Emilee Klein and Renee Hunt threatened to turn the girls’ division of the 40th Los Angeles Junior Golf Championship into a Valley sweep Monday, taking over the top spots midway through the 36-hole event at the Sepulveda golf courses.

In the senior boys’ division, five of the top seven spots were occupied by Valley golfers.

Voorhees, who plays out of the Lakeside Country Club in North Hollywood, shot an opening-round 71 on the Encino course and held a commanding lead heading into today’s final round. Klein, of Tarzana, was tied for second after a round of 75 while Hunt, who plays out of the Braemar Country Club, was alone in third with a 76.

In the boys’ division, Jim Skinner of Pacific Palisades shot a 69 on the Balboa course. In third place was Michael Miller of Valencia, who shot a 72. John Schweizer of Westlake and Tony Bordwell of Tarzana were tied in fourth place after rounds of 73 while Jason Tulley of Westlake and Adam Fox of Thousand Oaks were tied for fifth with 74s.
