Two people suspected of robbing a Yorba Linda bowling alley early this morning surrendered to police after a brief chase, authorities said.

Detective Grant Gulickson said two robbers armed with air pistols used a crowbar to pry open the back door of Village Bowl in the 18000 block of Imperial Highway at 3:15 a.m. They tied up a janitor and fled with with a pillowcase stuffed with an undisclosed amount of coins, Gulickson said.

But the janitor freed himself and called police. An officer who responded to the scene saw the robbers’ car leaving the bowling alley’s parking lot. After a short chase, the officer found the car abandoned in the area of Oriente Drive and Lakeview Avenue in Yorba Linda.

Gulickson said the robbers ran to a friend’s house and telephoned their parents, who advised them to surrender to police. They were later taken into custody.

Police arrested Michael Burton, 18, of Anaheim and a 17-year-old Brea youth. Burton is held on $10,000 bail while the juvenile, whose name is being withheld because of his age, was released to his parents after being booked on suspicion of armed robbery.

Gulickson said officers recovered the pillow case of coins and two air pistols.
