HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Hart Explodes for 15-3 Victory in Gilroy Final

Hart High pounded 18 hits en route to a 15-3 victory over Gilroy in the championship game of the Gilroy Garlic Classic on Wednesday.

Keith Halcovich and Andrew Lorraine combined on a seven-hitter for Hart. Halcovich also doubled and had two runs batted in.

Doug Distaso was five for five for Hart and Lance Migita hit a three-run home run.

SAN FERNANDO VALLEY LEAGUE

LaSalle 9, Harvard 6--Harvard’s Adam Braun sent the game into extra innings with an RBI triple in the seventh but LaSalle scored three times in the ninth to win.

For Harvard (5-10, 1-3 in league play), Jono Pivo was three for five with two runs batted in. La Salle is 10-2, 3-1.

Notre Dame 6, St. Genevieve 1--Notre Dame junior right-hander Cary Wichmann tossed a four-hitter, struck out seven and walked two at Notre Dame.

Wichmann (5-1) allowed three singles and a double.

Chris Prince was two for two, scored three runs and stole three bases for Notre Dame (9-6-1, 4-0) and Steve Quaile added a two-run double. Carlos Concha took the loss for St. Genevieve.

FAR WEST CLASSIC

Chatsworth 6, El Dorado 4--Mitch Root drove in three runs and earned the save as Chatsworth (12-4-1) advanced to the fifth-place game at El Dorado High in Orange County.

Chatsworth broke a 3-3 tie in the fourth inning with three runs on two hits, two sacrifice flies, a walk and a hit batsman.

After Chatsworth loaded the bases in the fourth on two hits and walk, Rodney Bloom was hit by a pitch and Nestor Martinez and Root followed with sacrifice flies. Scott Carpenter and Reed McMackin each had two hits. Root threw four innings of two-hit relief and struck out five to earn his third save.

POMONA TOURNAMENT

Arcadia 7, Glendale 1--Marcos Rivas singled home Brent Overfelt in the first inning to account for Glendale’s only run in a seventh-place game.
