Denver, Seattle to Open Bowl Series in Tokyo
The Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks will kick off this year’s American Bowl series at the Tokyo Dome on Aug. 5, National Football League commissioner Paul Tagliabue announced today.
The game is one of four American Bowl exhibitions this summer, with others scheduled for London, Montreal and Berlin.
Tagliabue said he hopes to expand the series, first played in London’s Wembley Stadium in 1986, and is considering Moscow as a future site.
He also said the league is considering scheduling a post-season game overseas for teams that make the playoffs but not the Super Bowl.
In the other American Bowl games, the Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots will play Aug. 9 in Montreal, the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Rams in Berlin’s Olympic Stadium on Aug. 11 and the Los Angeles Raiders and New Orleans Saints in London on Aug. 5.
