A man known only as “Marcus” to people on the street was stabbed to death Tuesday afternoon in front of a grocery store near 12th Avenue and Market Street, authorities said.

The man walked into the Valu-Mart about 1:30 p.m. and collapsed by the front door, said Sgt. Jim Clear, a police spokesman. As of late Tuesday, authorities had not determined the real identity of the man, who was stabbed in the upper abdomen.

The man, thought to be 25 to 30 years old, was 6 feet tall and weighed about 200 pounds, said Ken Bell, spokesman for the county coroner’s office. He wore a red warm-up suit with a white stripe down the side of the pants, and white, low-top athletic shoes, Bell said. He died at 2:20 p.m. in the emergency room of UC San Diego Medical Center, hospital officials said.

Witnesses told police they saw a suspect drive off in a maroon vehicle, which officers followed to a store at 13th Avenue and F Street, where Delbert Russworm, 35, was arrested. He was booked into County Jail on suspicion of murder, Clear said.
