Chatsworth d. El Camino Real, 15-5, 15-8, 15-8--Mike Nash had 12 kills and Ryan Labovitch had 10 for first-place Chatsworth (9-2, 5-0) in a West Valley League match at El Camino Real.

Grant d. Sherman Oaks CES, 15-11, 7-15, 15-8, 15-9--Mark Jomsky, David Bloom and Steve Cha combined for 33 kills and Cha and Jomsky added 25 and 21 blocks, respectively, to lead the Lancers in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Sherman Oaks CES.

Kennedy d. Gardena, 15-10, 15-6, 15-4--Darren Atkison had 32 assists and Eric Germansky registered 18 kills for Kennedy (7-3) in a nonleague match at Gardena.

Van Nuys d. Reseda, 12-15, 15-8, 15-13, 8-15, 15-7--Brad Schultz had 17 kills and Larry Lein added eight for Van Nuys (7-3, 4-2) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Van Nuys.

Scott Kent led Reseda (7-3, 4-2) with 19 kills.

Monroe d. Birmingham, 15-8, 15-5, 6-15, 15-6--Brad Packer had 15 kills and 10 blocks for Monroe (10-0, 6-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Monroe. Monroe’s Jean Masequesmay had 15 blocks and 20 saves, Matt Johnson had 10 kills and eight blocks and setter Erik Ramey had 39 assists.

Cleveland d. Canoga Park, 15-7, 15-3, 14-16, 15-4--Cesar Gutierrez had 19 kills to lead Cleveland (1-1 in conference) to a Northwest Valley Conference win at Cleveland.

Westlake d. San Marcos, 11-15, 15-6, 15-12, 14-16, 15-10--Brian Rudin had 20 kills and Greg Bahl had 15 blocks to lead host Westlake (7-4).

BASEBALL

Birmingham 4, Grant 3--Ruben Flores’ run-scoring single in the bottom of the eighth inning scored Danny Larson with the winning run for host Birmingham (13-5-1, 7-4) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game, the Braves’ eighth consecutive win.

San Fernando 9, Taft 8--Luis Rodriguez delivered a two-run single, and Fernando Ortega (sacrifice fly) and John Najar (single) also drove in runs to highlight a six-run sixth inning for San Fernando (11-4-2, 6-3-1) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Taft.

Poly 8, Reseda 3--Wil Molina hit a three-run home run in a six-run sixth inning for Poly in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Reseda.

North Hollywood 10, Monroe 3--Ozzie Collins hit a three-run home run to give North Hollywood a 5-0 second-inning lead, and the Huskies romped to a Valley Pac-8 Conference win.

Sylmar 10, Van Nuys 2--Dereck Ornelas hit two home runs and drove in five runs to power host Sylmar (11-6, 5-4) to a Valley Pac-8 conference win.
