COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Cal Lutheran Routs Westmont, 18-5

Dave Leonhardt had three hits and drove in five runs Wednesday to pace host Cal Lutheran to an 18-5 NAIA District 3 baseball win over Westmont.

Leonhardt singled, doubled and tripled while teammate Jeff Broulette went four for five with three RBIs for Cal Lutheran (20-10, 8-5).

Tim Lewis hit a two-run home run to support Kevin O’Neill (3-3), who went five innings to get the win.

SOFTBALL

Moorpark 1, Ventura 0--Melissa Maples scored the game’s only run on a throwing error by Ventura second baseman Mikey Martin in the third inning of the Western State Conference game at Ventura.

Robin Thomas (20-4) earned the win for Moorpark (22-7 overall).

The win boosted Moorpark’s conference record to 10-0 and marks the team’s 16th straight conference win in the last two years. In the past six years, the team’s conference mark stands at 84-7.

Pierce 9, Cuesta 2--Carol Schoenmann went two for three and drove in two runs to lift host Pierce to its first WSC win. Lisa Brown picked up the win for the Brahmas (3-23, 1-7).

Antelope Valley 9, Victor Valley 2--Pam Craycraft went two for three with a two-run double and Cheri Bainbridge went two for four to lead a 16-hit Antelope Valley attack at Antelope Valley.

Marianne Spencer (9-11) went the distance for Antelope Valley (13-16, 9-4).

Santa Monica 6, Canyons 5--Santa Monica scored two runs on a pair of bases-loaded singles in the bottom of the eighth inning of the WSC game at Santa Monica.

With the score tied, 4-4, after seven, Canyons (18-17, 3-6 in conference) went ahead on an eighth-inning solo home run by Jill Greenwood, who was one for three.

Michelle Ruffner (16-16) was charged with the loss for Canyons. Santa Monica improved to 5-5 in conference play.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Pierce d. Golden West, 7-15, 15-11, 15-9, 14-16, 16-14--Tony Zapata had 27 kills and Brent Couture added 20 for Pierce in a South Coast Conference match at Golden West. Bill Cheeseman had nine blocks for second-place Pierce (16-2).
