El Capitan 12, Mt. Miguel 2--Sid Melero went two for two with three runs scored and three RBIs, and Mike Farrell went two for three with a double and four RBIs for El Capitan (12-6, 1-0). Mt Miguel fell to 3-13 and 0-1.

Grossmont 2-A

Grossmont 15, Valhalla 2--Grossmont (17-2, 1-0) had plenty of heroes:

Greg Layson went three for six, scored three runs, had three RBIs and stole two bases; Todd Cady went four for six, knocked in three runs and now has 39 RBIs on the season; Lenny Van Avery went three for four with a home run and two RBIs, scored twice and stole a base, and Rob Roberson went two for four with two RBIs.

El Cajon 15, West Hills 1--Isac Walsh went three for four with a single, double and triple and scored four runs, and Jason Heth went three for three and scored three times for El Cajon (6-8-1, 1-0). West Hills fell to 3-15 and 0-1.

Avocado League

Oceanside 8, Ramona 4--Angel Torres hit a two-run homer, scoring Oceanside’s only two earned runs of its six that inning. Also for Oceanside (15-5, 3-0), Kenya Hunt went two for four with an RBI. Luis Ethington went three for three for Ramona (4-11-1, 1-3).

Escondido 5, San Marcos 3--Jerry Singleton hit an RBI double in the seventh inning to put ahead Escondido (8-7, 3-0) ahead by two. San Marcos (7-9, 0-3)

San Pasqual 4, Carlsbad 2--Two of San Pasqual’s runs were unearned as the Eagles capitalized on three errors by Carlsbad (0-4, 8-11). Ben Duncan went two for three with two doubles, and Jeff Thomas had a run-scoring single. Bobby Cummings picked up the win for San Pasqual (5-9-1, 2-1).

Palomar League

Vista 6, Torrey Pines 5--Senior Todd Singer went three for four with two RBIs, including the game-winning single with no outs in the bottom of the seventh. Ryan Tamburrino added two hits for Vista (8-10-1, 2-2-1). Torrey Pines fell to 9-9 and 0-4.

Mt. Carmel 1, Orange Glen 0--David Israel threw a two-hit shutout and raised his record to 5-1. Andy Panganiban went two for four and scored the winning run on a walk with the bases loaded. Panganiban reached on an infield single and stole second and third for third-ranked Mt Carmel (14-3, 4-0). Orange Glen is 10-8, 1-3.

Poway 7, San Dieguito 2--Sophomore left-hander Scott Tittrington struck out eight San Dieguito batters in six innings to raise his season total to 35 in 26 innings. Greg Sorrel went two for two with an RBI.

Poway (11-4-1, 3-1) scored three runs without a hit in the second inning.

Nonleague

Helix 5, Santana 2--Shawn Ballantyne went two for four with a run scored and an RBI to lead Helix (11-6-1). Eric Nicholson went the distance, striking out eight. Gabe Hernandez went three for four for Santana (15-3).
