PREP VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP : Opoulos Leads Newport Harbor Over Corona del Mar

Senior Alex Opoulos moved from setter to outside hitter for the first time in his career and had 13 kills to lead 10th-ranked Newport Harbor High School to a 15-10, 9-15, 15-11, 15-10, victory over No. 6 Corona del Mar in a Sea View League match Friday at Newport Harbor.
Freshman outside hitter Mark McAnlis 17 kills and sophomore middle blocker Justin McIntee had nine kills for Newport Harbor (5-5, 4-2).
In other Sea View League matches:
University 3, Tustin 0--Setter Zolti Csanyi had 14 kills and four aces and 21 assists to lead University to a 15-6, 15-9, 15-5 victory. Garrett Gee and Martin Wagner had nine kills for University (8-2, 5-1) which moved into a first-place tie with Corona del Mar (6-2, 5-1).
In the Empire League:
Foothill 3, Los Alamitos 1--Dane Gorup had 11 kills to lead Foothill (11-1, 6-0) to a 15-5, 14-16, 15-5, 15-9 victory at Los Alamitos.
El Dorado 3, Cypress 0--Alan Stankovich had 13 kills to lead El Dorado (6-4, 4-2) to a 16-14, 15-6, 19-17 victory.
In the Garden Grove League:
La Quinta 3, Kennedy 0--Paul Price had 15 kills to lead host La Quinta (11-1, 10-0) to a 15-2, 15-3, 15-1 victory. Chris Doherty had 13 kills for La Quinta.
Garden Grove 3, Bolsa Grande 0--Ernie Dare had eight kills and Joe Squyres had 10 stuff blocks as host Garden Grove (9-7, 6-4) won, 15-11, 15-7, 15-10.
Pacifica 3, Los Amigos 0--Kevin Williams had 12 kills and Brian Showalter had nine kills as visiting Pacifica (6-6, 6-4) won 15-5, 15-7, 15-8.
In the Olympic League:
Calvary Chapel 3, Valley Christian 0--Danny Neuman had 15 kills to lead host Calvary Chapel (11-2, 9-0) to a 15-5, 15-11, 15-13 victory.
In the South Coast League:
Irvine 3, El Toro 1--Chris Swanner had 11 kills and Kurt Povirk had 12 kills to lead visiting Irvine (9-4, 4-2) to a 9-15, 15-11, 15-3, 15-8 victory.
