San Marcos 9, Oceanside 1--Justin Woodart hit a grand slam in the fourth to extend San Marcos’ lead to 8-1 in the fourth over No. 9 Oceanside (16-7, 4-2). Aaron Cassidy pitched a six hitter and retired eight of the last nine batters for San Marcos (9-9-1, 3-3).

San Pasqual 6, Ramona 4--Tim Young came on in the fourth inning, pitched three and two-thirds innings and struck out six. Teammate Dave Goss hit his first home run for San Pasqual (7-9-1, 4-1).

Grossmont 3-A League

Helix 4, Monte Vista 1--Eric Nicholson (8-0) struck out 10 as visiting Helix (12-7-1, 1-1) upset fifth-ranked Monte Vista (14-8, 1-2).

Granite Hills 20, Mount Miguel 0--Granite Hills (14-7-1, 1-1) scored in all but the fourth and got some heavy hitting from Jim Fenn (four for five, three RBIs, including a double and a triple) and Shane Spencer (three for five, seven RBIs). Mount Miguel fell to 4-17, 1-2.

Grossmont 2-A League

Grossmont 6, West Hills 4--Center fielder Lenny Van Every extended his consecutive game hitting streak to 20 with an RBI single in the fifth. Van Every’s only hitless game was in Grossmont’s opener. Jim Earley went two for three, including a two-run homer, and drove in two runs for second-ranked Grossmont (19-2, 2-0). West Hills is 3-16, 0-3.

Palomar League

Mt. Carmel 3, Vista 1--Matt Miller’s solo home run in the sixth started a late surge for third-ranked Mt. Carmel (17-3, 7-0). Vista is 8-11-1, 2-4-1.

Poway 12, Rancho Buena Vista 2--Robbie Plarski hit a two-run homer and Poway (13-5-1, 5-2) scored seven runs in the sixth inning to defeat RBV (9-10-1, 4-3). Plarski had two hits and three RBIs.

Fallbrook 15, Torrey Pines 9--After Torrey Pines scored seven runs in the second, Fallbrook (9-8, 4-3) came back with 13 in the third, during which 19 batters stepped to the plate. Matt Dunlop hit a three-run home run, his fifth, and Jose Gonzales hit a grand slam.

Orange Glen 11, San Dieguito 2--Scott Coleman pitched a one-hitter and hit two three-run home runs for Orange Glen (13-8, 4-3). San Dieguito is 1-5-1, 2-17-1.

Nonleague

El Capitan 11, El Cajon 0--David Rios (6-1) pitched his first shutout of the year, striking out five and allowing no walks for El Capitan (14-7).

Boys’ Track and Field

La Jolla 71, University City 64--La Jolla won the Western League championship with its ninth consecutive victory this season and its 37th in a row dating back to 1985. The meet wasn’t decided until the mile relay. University City’s Jerome Price, national long jump leader and one of the county’s top sprinters, was held from the long jump to keep fresh for the relay, but it didn’t work. La Jolla anchor Steve Azcona inherited a 30-yard advantage and maintained it over Price with a 51.7 final leg.
