PREP ROUNDUP : Bickert’s 1-Hitter Leads El Toro Past Capistrano Valley
Marta Bickert’s one-hitter led El Toro High School to a 3-0 victory over host Capistrano Valley in a South Coast League softball game Wednesday.
Bickert (5-3) also had two hits. El Toro (17-7, 5-0 in the league) scored three runs on three hits in the third inning. Corrie Yauney had two hits, scored a run and had an RBI and Jaime Smith had two hits with one RBI.
In Sea View League softball:
University 7, Newport Harbor 0--Shereen Patton (8-4) pitched a three-hitter with 13 strikeouts for host University (11-9, 3-2). Heather Campbell had two hits and two RBIs for University.
In Pacific Coast League boys’ volleyball:
Laguna Hills 3, Costa Mesa 0--Bart Dunn and Eric Davis each had six kills and Robert Abele had five aces to lead host Laguna Hills (4-8, 4-6) to a 15-1, 15-7, 15-0 victory over Costa Mesa.
In Empire League boys’ volleyball:
Foothill 3, Santa Ana 0--Dane Gorup and Matt Vandry each had seven kills to lead Foothill (12-1, 7-0) to a 15-2, 15-7, 15-7 victory over visiting Santa Ana.
Esperanza 3, El Dorado 0--Rocky Jones and Jason Galeener had 10 kills each for host Esperanza (12-1, 5-1) in a 15-8, 15-7, 15-7 sweep.
In Empire League boys’ tennis:
Esperanza 10, El Dorado 8--The match went down to the last set with Esperanza (14-3, 8-0) leading, 9-8, but needing a victory because it would have lost on games had the match finished in a tie. Freshman Mike Burgess won, 6-4, to give the Aztecs the victory. Dan Harris and Jim Stewart swept their doubles match, 6-3, 6-1, 6-1.
In Orange League tennis:
Western 11, Savanna 7--Steve Her, Ed Peregrino and James Yu all swept their singles sets to lead host Western (14-3, 9-3).
In Empire League girls’ swimming:
Los Alamitos 106, Esperanza 49--Nicole Williamson won the 200-yard individual medley (2:13.69) and the 100 freestyle (54.85) to lead host Los Alamitos (8-1, 5-0).
In Pacific Coast League boys’ swimming:
Orange 104, Trabuco Hills 47--Host Orange’s 200-yard medley relay won in a time of 1:45.7. Mike Prahm won the 50 freestyle (22.18) and the 100 butterfly (55.57) for Orange.
In Pacific Coast league golf:
Orange 190, Laguna Beach 197--Andy Blevins shot one-under-par 31 to lead Orange at Aliso Creek.
In nonleague golf:
University 283, Irvine 288--Eric Palmer and Jung-Foo Lee of University (11-5) and Ted Baker of Irvine each shot one-over-par 53 for 13 holes at Rancho Joaquin.
