COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Irvine’s Women Gain Tennis Semifinals

The UC Irvine women’s tennis team defeated Fresno State, 5-4, Thursday to advance to today’s semifinals of the Big West Conference tournament at Ojai.
Irvine (11-18) will face San Diego State, the four-time defending Big West champion, at 10 a.m. today at the Ojai Valley Racquet Club.
UC Santa Barbara and Nevada Las Vegas, which beat Cal State Fullerton, 5-1, will meet in the other semifinal.
The Anteaters and Bulldogs were tied, 3-3, but the doubles teams of Ali Yoshimoto and Michelle Foster, at No. 2, and Erin Abe and Jennifer Mazgedian, at No. 3, picked up victories.
Fresno State defeated Irvine, 8-1, earlier this season.
In California Collegiate Athletic Assn. baseball:
Chapman 6, Cal State Los Angeles 3--Mark Landeros hit a three-run home run to lead visiting Chapman (25-19, 14-10).
In nonconference baseball:
Southern California College 5, UC San Diego 0--Doug Rystrom (4-3) pitched a four-hitter, struck out eight and walked seven to lead host Southern California College (26-15-1). Rystrom had two hits, three stolen bases and one RBI, and Rafael Garcia and Joe Aversa each hit solo home runs.
