PREP SOFTBALL ROUNDUP : Pioneer Baptist Pounds Claremont, 39-5

Pioneer Baptist of Norwalk scored 39 runs on 30 hits to defeat Garden Grove Claremont, 39-5, in an Express League softball game Tuesday.

The run total is not a Southern Section record. Simi Valley Lutheran scored 62 runs in 1987 against Viewpoint in a game called after three innings.

Pioneer Baptist scored five runs in the first inning, eight in the third, four in the fourth, 14 in the fifth and eight in the sixth. Heather Tannahill had three doubles to lead Pioneer Baptist.

In the Angelus League:

Mater Dei 4, Rosary 0--Amy Godwin (1-0) pitched a three-hitter and Melinda Ramirez hit a home run over the fence for visiting Mater Dei (18-2, 7-0).

In the Century League:

Canyon 6, Villa Park 0--Sara Roberts (11-4) pitched a one-hitter, striking out 13, to lead host Canyon (18-4, 5-2). Roberts (11-4) also drove in a run with a bases-loaded single in the first.

El Modena 5, Foothill 4--Carrie McGowan had a two-run triple in the fifth for El Modena (5-15, 2-5).

Santa Ana 5, Santa Ana Valley 2--Stacy Lumley singled in three runs and sister Jennifer Lumley had an RBI single for host Santa Ana (8-12, 2-5).

In the Freeway League:

Buena Park 3, Sonora 0--Denise Wyman had an RBI single in the fourth for host Buena Park (14-2-1, 6-1).

Fullerton 3, Troy 1--Heather Darke tripled and scored the go-ahead run on Isaura Campos’ single in the sixth for Fullerton (10-8, 4-3).

In the Empire League:

Los Alamitos 5, Cypress 2--Julie Harris had three hits and Christy Boles had two hits and two RBIs for Los Alamitos (15-7, 5-2), which moved into a first-place tie with Cypress.

In the Olympic League:

Santa Margarita 3, Whittier Christian 2--Melissa Levens singled in the winning run in the fourth for host Santa Margarita (13-1, 10-1).

In the Garden Grove League:

Garden Grove 5, Pacific 1--Stephanie Smith (19-3-1) allowed three hits, struck out 10 and gave up an unearned run in the first for Garden Grove (19-3-1, 10-0-1).

Kennedy 3, Santiago 0--Cheryl Longeway (15-2) pitched a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts for Kennedy (19-2-1, 10-0-1). Lana Jimenez had a hit and also scored two runs for Kennedy.

Rancho Alamitos 5, Los Amigos 1--Freshman Distiny Mollison (5-1) pitched a five-hitter with seven strikeouts and Crystal Youngberg had four hits and scored three runs for Rancho Alamitos.

In the Sunset League:

Fountain Valley 6, Edison 0--Rae Rice (14-1) pitched a one-hitter and struck out eight for Fountain Valley.

Ocean View 4, Westminster 0--Shanon Pouelsen hit a two-run home run in the first and Marla Pickard hit a home run in the fifth for visiting Ocean View (16-8, 4-3).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Woodbridge 9, Orange 0--Kristen Gove hit a two-run home run in the sixth and Jessica Montgomery went two for two with two RBIs for host Woodbridge (14-10, 6-1).

Trabuco Hills 7, Laguna Hills 0--Linda Lunceford went four for five with two RBIs and two runs scored and her younger sister, Christy, went two for four and drove in two runs for visiting Trabuco Hills (18-6, 7-0).
