Woman Who Left Baby at Hospital May Be Mother

A woman who appeared nervous dropped off an hours-old boy at Doctor’s Hospital of Lakewood Thursday, saying she found the baby in a box in a parking lot, but police said the woman could be the mother.
The woman, who appeared to be between 24 and 26 years old, arrived at the hospital about 11:30 a.m. with the infant, said Erika Lopez, a medical assistant at the hospital.
“She was shaking like she was scared,” Lopez said.
Hospital personnel asked the woman to stay until police could arrive and take a report, but the woman said she was double-parked and would return after she parked her car, Lopez said. She did not.
The baby was in good condition and was taken to County-USC Medical Center to be cared for until the mother could be identified, detective Dave Barber said.
