Newcombe Named Orange Empire’s Top Player

Kellie Newcombe of Orange Coast College was selected player of the year and teammate Kristin Heizer and Sally Dugas of Cypress were chosen pitchers of the year in a vote by the Orange Empire Conference softball coaches announced Friday.
Newcombe, a sophomore center fielder, hit .368 with 33 runs scored and 23 runs batted in.
Nick Trani, who guided Orange Coast from last to second place in two seasons, was selected coach of the year.
