Two men on a mountain biking excursion spent the night in the Angeles National Forest after one of their bikes broke down and they got lost, prompting a ground and air search that ended this morning when the pair flagged down a man on his way to work.

Teams of 46 sheriff’s deputies aided by two helicopters had been searching for Tom Yackee, who turns 23 Thursday, and Mike Hughes, 24, both of El Monte, since Tuesday night, when the pair failed to return to a designated pickup spot as scheduled, Deputy Bill Wehner said.

About 8:30 a.m. today, an NBC technician bound for the radio tower at Mt. Wilson to make repairs was flagged down by the pair, who were pushing their bikes toward the tower, which they were using to keep their bearings, Deputy Pat Hunter said.
