HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Treend Hits Two Homers to Lead El Camino Real

Pat Treend blasted a pair of home runs--including a grand slam--drove in seven runs and pitched a complete game with 11 strikeouts Tuesday to lead El Camino Real High to a 10-5 West Valley League victory over visiting Taft.

The 6-foot-4, 205-pound senior right-hander scattered seven singles--including three infield hits--to raise his record to 10-0.

Treend hit a two-out, three-run home run to cap a four-run first inning for first-place El Camino Real (17-2-1, 14-1-1 in league play). Treend, who was two for three, launched a grand slam in the second inning as the Conquistadores took a 9-1 lead. The home runs were Treend’s first of the season and he increased his run batted in total to 23.

In the third, El Camino Real first baseman Ryan McGuire hit his fifth home run of the season. John Erganian was two for four for Taft (10-13-1, 6-9-1).

In other games:

Alemany 3, Crespi 1--Senior Joey Rosselli (7-3) pitched a three-hitter, striking out nine and walking none, as host Alemany (13-14, 5-7) clinched the Del Rey League’s final playoff berth.

Alemany freshman Eddie Bushey was three for three, including a run-scoring double in the second inning to score Greg Thompson. Teammate Kirk Fellows was two for three.

Tim Weir was two for two for Crespi (17-9-1, 8-3).

Loyola 4, St. Francis 3--Jason Sinner and Scott Jackson each had two hits and drove in a run for St. Francis in a Del Rey League game at Loyola.

Manny Fernandez (5-3) started and lost for St. Francis (6-11, 3-8).

Hart 8, San Gabriel 5--Hart trailed, 4-0 and 5-1, before rallying in the Foothill League game at San Gabriel.

The Indians (21-1-2, 14-0) scored three times in the fifth on Chad Miyata’s two-run single and Keith Halcovich’s sacrifice fly. In the sixth, Lance Migita delivered a two-run double to give Hart a 6-5 lead. R. J. Simone added a two-run home run in the seventh for Hart.

Halcovich (4-1) struck out three in two innings of relief to earn the win. Andrew Lorraine pitched two innings to earn his sixth save.

Chatsworth 13, Canoga Park 3--Rodney Bloom and Nestor Martinez each had three of Chatsworth’s 15 hits in the West Valley League game at Lanark Park.

Valentine Douglas had two doubles for Canoga Park (1-15, 1-13). Chatsworth is 19-5-1, 11-4-1.

Cleveland 4, Granada Hills 1--Cleveland’s Bobby McRae carried a no-hitter through 5 2/3 innings to improve to 2-3 in the North Valley League game.

Julio Marcial had a two-run triple in the first, and Brian Basowski and Pat Bryant had two hits apiece for Cleveland (5-14, 4-12).

Bryan Martin of Granada Hills (6-15-2, 4-10-2) pitched five scoreless innings after allowing four runs in the first.

Rio Mesa 9, Ventura 5--Mike Mitchell hit two home runs and drove in four runs to pace a 14-hit Rio Mesa attack in a Channel League game at Ventura.

Others Rio Mesa hitters enjoying a productive game included: Dmitri Young (three hits, double); Jon McMullen (two hits, RBI); and winning pitcher David Soliz (two hits, RBI double). Tim Cass (5-2) took the loss for Ventura (12-12-1, 8-4-1). Rio Mesa improved to 17-5-2, 10-1-2.

Saugus 20, Quartz Hill 18--First-place Saugus (17-5-1, 13-1) outslugged host Quartz Hill (9-12, 5-9) in a wind-blown Golden League game.

Jeff Albert and Jason Bates each hit his fourth home run for Saugus. Catcher J. B. Johnson was four for four with two RBIs. Sophomore Kyle Lonsberry had three RBIs for Saugus.

Kendial Armstrong led Quartz Hill’s 20-hit attack with three hits.

Antelope Valley 9, Ridgecrest Burroughs 6--Senior right-hander Kevin Branch (3-4) pitched his second complete game of the season as visiting Antelope Valley (11-12, 7-7) remained in contention for a Golden League playoff berth.

Jade Freeman hit a three-run double to highlight the Antelopes’ eight-run third inning.

Canyon 15, Palmdale 7--Canyon (11-11, 7-7) remained tied with Antelope Valley with a 17-hit attack against visiting Palmdale.

Canyon’s Steve Mann was four for five with two RBIs. Daryl Parish hit his third home run for second-place Palmdale (12-7, 8-6).

Agoura 4, Santa Ynez 3--Brian Smith singled with one out in the seventh inning to put Agoura ahead in the Frontier League game at Santa Ynez. Joe Medaglia (2-1) earned the win for Agoura (14-8, 9-0).

Calabasas 11, Nordhoff 10--Calabasas scored one, two, three and four runs in the fourth through seventh innings to overcome a nine-run deficit in a Frontier League game at Calabasas.

Calabasas’ Paul Schaffer had three doubles, including a two-run shot in the seventh inning.

Moorpark 7, Oak Park 4--Visiting Moorpark scored three runs in the seventh to pull out a Tri-Valley League win at Oak Park.

Chris Boyer had a two-run single to key Moorpark’s outburst. Chuong Ho (4-0) earned the victory.

Fillmore 6, Carpinteria 2--Anthony Chessani doubled, singled and drove in two runs for host Fillmore (16-3, 12-2) in a Tri-Valley League game.

Pokey Sanchez added two hits and Alex Sandoval drove in two runs to support the winning pitching of Steve Palmer (9-1).

Montclair Prep 14, Marshall Fundamental 2--Montclair Prep clinched its eighth consecutive Alpha League title with a win at Marshall Fundamental.

Andy Shaw and Jared Baumblatt each doubled and hit home runs for Montclair Prep (21-3, 9-1), which broke the game open with a seven-run sixth.

Starter Chris Ferebee (4-0) earned the win, and freshman Brad Fullmer had two hits.

Maranatha 14, L.A. Baptist 3--Mitch Santala homered to pace Maranatha (9-8, 5-4) in an Alpha League game at L.A. Baptist. Dan Shackelford and Steve Klein had RBIs for L.A. Baptist.

Paraclete 9, Mojave 0--Junior right-hander Justin Curry (1-0) struck out 11 to lead Paraclete (12-7, 8-1) to a Desert-Inyo League victory at home.
