Share

Denise E. Ovrom will take over as city manager of Temple City on July 1, replacing Karl L. Koski, who is retiring after 25 years in the post.

Ovrom, currently assistant city manager in Brea, has 12 years of experience in municipal administration in California cities, including Claremont and Simi Valley. She was selected unanimously by the City Council, Mayor Thomas Breazeal said.

Ovrom will also have the distinction of being part of the only husband-wife city manager duo in the state. Her husband, Robert (Bud) Ovrom, is city manager in Burbank. The two met 19 years ago, when they worked for the city of Simi Valley, she as an administrative assistant, he as an assistant to the city manager.

The Ovrom household in Burbank sometimes resounds with shop talk, she said. “There are pros and cons to it. We have a commonality of understanding about what each does. But sometimes you can’t get away from it,” she said. The Ovroms have two teen-age daughters.
