Richie Giachetti, who trained former heavyweight champion Larry Holmes, has been hired to help train Mike Tyson for his fight against Henry Tillman on June 16.

Giachetti said he is “part of the team” working with the former heavyweight champion, who began sparring on Monday in Las Vegas.

Tyson’s trainers, Aaron Snowell and Jay Bright, came under fire after Tyson was knocked out by Buster Douglas in February in Tokyo for not getting him in proper shape and not giving him proper instructions during the fight.

Tyson is again being trained by Snowell and Bright, but Giachetti said he will be assisting. Tyson split with his former trainer, Kevin Rooney, last year. He said Tuesday that he has not talked with Rooney recently and has no plans to bring him back.

Tyson, who suffered his first loss as a pro when Douglas knocked him out to win the undisputed heavyweight title, will meet Tillman in a scheduled 10-rounder at Caesars Palace.
