The Minnesota Twins finally accomplished what no other team has been able to do this season.

Behind the four-hit pitching of Allan Anderson and Kirby Puckett’s five hits, the Twins beat Dave Stewart and the Oakland Athletics, 6-2, Monday night at Minneapolis.

Stewart (6-1), who had eight consecutive victories and had not lost since Sept. 8, gave up six runs and 10 hits in four innings as the A’s dropped their third consecutive game--their longest losing streak of the season.

“I just didn’t do enough,” said Stewart, whose earned-run average rose from 1.46 to 2.36. “My job is to go out there and make sure we have a chance to win, and I didn’t do that.”

Anderson (2-4), who hadn’t won since April 13 and was pitching with two days of rest, did not allow more than one hit in an inning. Jose Canseco’s solo home runs in the sixth and ninth, his 10th and 11th of the season, were the only damaging hits.

Fred Manrique hit a two-run homer in the second inning and Kent Hrbek had a two-run double in a four-run fourth that chased Stewart.

Puckett had three singles off Stewart and doubles off Todd Burns and Joe Klink.

Kansas City 9, Boston 5--Rey Palacios made his first hit of the season a big one, hitting a two-out, 10th-inning grand slam off Red Sox relief ace Jeff Reardon (1-1) at Kansas City.

Palacios, who was hitless in five at-bats, entered the game as a pinch-runner in the ninth inning.

Mark Davis (1-2) pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings for the win.

Roger Clemens went seven innings for the Red Sox, giving up three runs and six hits.

Bo Jackson hit his fourth homer for the Royals.

Toronto 8, Detroit 3--Kelly Gruber’s two-run single and Fred McGriff’s three-run homer in the 10th inning paced the Blue Jays at Detroit.
