A federal judge in Las Vegas vacated the start of a breach-of-contract trial brought by heavyweight champion Buster Douglas against promoter Don King, setting the stage for the case to be heard in New York.
The action by U.S. District Judge Howard McKibben came on the heels of a ruling by a New York federal judge, who gutted a big portion of Douglas’ case by rejecting many of the arguments advanced by his attorneys as reasons for breaking the contract with King.
In his ruling, U.S. District Judge Robert Sweet in New York limited a trial to the sole issue of whether King breached his contract with Douglas by disputing Douglas’ knockout of Mike Tyson in February in Japan.
