ANAHEIM — Pitcher Jeff Brunswig went three for four with three runs batted in to pace Canyon High School to a 16-5 victory over Buena in the second round of the Southern Section 4-A playoffs Tuesday at Canyon.
Brunswig, a sophomore who was credited with his first victory of the season, helped break the game open with a run-scoring single in Canyon’s five-run third. Junior Greg Tippin led off the inning with a home run to center.
Tippin and Roy O’Leary also had three hits. O’Leary added three RBIs and Tippin two. Canyon (14-12-1) had 16 hits and benefitted from 10 walks by four Buena pitchers.
“I’m extremely surprised with the score because we’re not a strong offensive team,” Canyon Coach Hi Lavalle said. “But for some reason, we were hot today.”
Buena (25-3) was led by Tyler Williamson, who had three hits and drove in two runs.
