MIAMI — Fire raced through the top floor of a downtown department store Tuesday, injuring more than two dozen firefighters, most of whom suffered heat exhaustion or smoke inhalation, authorities said.
One firefighter was hospitalized with a knee injury and another suffered minor burns to his back and neck when a ceiling collapsed.
More than 70 Miami and Coral Gables firefighters sprayed water onto the blazing three-story Woolworth’s building from ladder trucks and the roof of a neighboring department store for 4 1/2 hours, a fire chief said.
