Referee’s Suit Names District, Football Player

Attorneys representing football referee Brad Woolley have filed a lawsuit in L. A. Superior Court against the Antelope Valley Union High School District and a Palmdale High football player who attacked Woolley during a game last season.

Woolley sustained minor injuries when Darius Wilson, then 18, knocked him down in the fourth quarter of the Oct. 13 Palmdale-Saugus game at College of the Canyons.

The suit, which seeks unspecified damages, charges that Wilson caused Woolley “extreme and severe mental anguish and physical pain.”

Also named as a defendant is Palmdale football Coach Kent Bothwell, who failed “to properly supervise the members of the football team,” the suit alleges.

School district attorneys are reviewing the lawsuit, a spokeswoman said.
