COUNTYWIDE : Program to Honor Art Achievements
- Share via
The Ventura County Arts Commission announced Thursday a new program to honor up to five individuals or organizations for community contributions.
Each of the commission’s five members will nominate an individual or organization for recognition of outstanding achievement in the arts, said Sandra Sanders, a spokeswoman for the commission. Recipients will be named in October, she said.
The awards program was adopted by the commission May 9 to focus attention on the role of the arts in the community, Sanders said.
“We want people to recognize the important contribution the arts make to the advancement of our society and civilization,” she said.
Recipients will be given plaques in recognition of their achievements, she said.
The commission advises the Board of Supervisors on funding, ordinances and other issues related to the arts.
