2 Die, 3 Injured in Fiery Crash of Pickup
Two people were killed and three injured when they were thrown from their pickup truck in a fiery crash on the Golden State Freeway just south of Santa Clarita early Monday morning, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The truck, driven by a 25-year-old man, drifted to the right into the adjacent lane and sideswiped a slower-moving vehicle. The truck, which had been traveling at about 80 m.p.h., crashed into the center divider and exploded into flames at about 3:50 a.m., said CHP Officer Andy Gutierrez.
The driver, whose identity was not released pending notification of relatives, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 44-year-old woman passenger died later at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia, the CHP reported.
The passengers who survived--Martha Quintana, 20, Claudia Rivas, 17, and Juan Pimental, 17--were all taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital.
The occupants of the other vehicle, James and Betty Nichols of Auburn, were not injured.
