The Big Ten officially expanded, adding Penn State as its 11th member, the first addition to the Midwest-based conference since Michigan State in 1949.
Jim Delany, Big Ten commissioner, indicated that the conference will change its name in the next 60 days, but did not elaborate.
Delany said that the earliest Penn State could start league competition in major revenue sports such as football and basketball would be 1995.
