Randy Barnes, Mike Powell and Hollis Conway each won his event as the United States scored 60 points in the first day of a two-day track and field meet at Milan, Italy. The Soviet Union is second with 52 points and France third with 46.5.
Barnes, who set the world shotput record of 75 feet 10 1/4 inches last month, won with a throw of 71-8 3/4. Powell won the long jump with a leap of 26-1, and Conway won the high jump at 7-2 1/2.
