Obituaries : Marcia Borie; journalist who covered Hollywood

Marcia Borie, a longtime journalist and author who wrote about the movie industry, has died at her Studio City home at the age of 60.

Miss Borie started on the city desk of the Hollywood Reporter in 1972, where she worked until her death. During her career with the trade paper, she held the positions of special issues editor, executive editor, editor and director of communications.

She penned the biography “Jack Benny,” and wrote two books about the history of the Hollywood Reporter. She also wrote for Ladies Home Journal, Good Housekeeping and McCall’s magazines and held editorial positions with Photoplay, Coronet and British Photoplay.

Miss Borie died Friday of heart failure, her cousin, Carol Bruce, said.

Born Oct. 25, 1929, in Philadelphia, she was raised in Southern California. She stood up for Jill Ireland and Charles Bronson at their wedding in 1968 and delivered a eulogy at the memorial service for Ireland last month.

Miss Borie is survived by two other cousins, Norma and Arthur Borie of Long Beach; a niece, Kristy Hope Welles of Lynnwood, Wash.; and a sister-in-law, Beth Welles of Seattle.

A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Hollywood Cemetery, with burial following at Beth Olam Cemetery. Donations in Miss Borie’s name may be made to Actors and Others for Animals or Pet Orphans. Manilow and Silverman Mortuary in Los Angeles is handling the arrangements.
