Zachregard, the horse reportedly used by the FBI to investigate possible race fixing at Finger Lakes Race Track, won her first race of the year Sunday.

The 5-year-old mare won Finger Lake’s third race, beating Unhinged Iron by two lengths and paying $12.20, $5.20 and $3.60.

The victory was Zachregard’s first in four starts this season. She finished fourth in her last start at Finger Lakes May 30.

Zachregard was identified by a Boston newspaper last month as the horse FBI agents bought and used to try to infiltrate the track’s training establishment to uncover any possible race-fixing schemes.

The FBI said they chose a horse with an unimpressive record in the hopes it would attract those seeking to fix races. But the horse proved to be better than it appeared, winning at least one race and finishing in the money enough times to pay for its upkeep, agents said.

Agents have refused to identify the horse involved in the 1989 undercover operation, but the Boston Herald reported that Zachregard was the horse previously referred to in news stories as “the horse with no name.”
