El Monte : Contract for Trail’s End

Share

Phase 2 of the Santa Fe Trail Historical Park Project will begin in July, following the City Council’s unanimous decision Tuesday to award a $313,000 contract to Bopark Enterprises Inc. of Rancho Cucamonga.

The project is on an acre of the city’s only historical site, next to Pioneer Park on Santa Anita Avenue. Parks and Recreation Director Brian Ogden said the money will be used to roof and refurbish the Osmond House, an 1890s farmhouse classified as an American folk house, and for landscaping and construction of a parking lot.

The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year. The first phase, including a covered wagon display, the Old El Monte Jail, community bell tower and a state historical plaque designating El Monte as the official end of the Santa Fe Trail, opened early this year.
