BASEL, Switzerland — Luc Roosen of Belgium won the third stage of the Tour of Switzerland cycling race today, edging a big group in a mass sprint at the finish.
Stephan Joho of Switzerland lost time and barely managed to keep the overall leader’s jersey. Ireland’s Sean Kelly cut his lead to two seconds.
Roosen covered the 168-kilometer leg from Aarau to Basel, including several steep climbs, in four hours, 18 minutes and 47 seconds.
Andrew Hampsten, a two-time winner, took 12th place, and fellow American Greg LeMond, warming up for a try at winning his third Tour de France, was 19th.
