Five Santa Monica College faculty members have been named 1989-90 Outstanding Educators by committees of students and professors, the college has announced.

French and Spanish professor Miguel Aparicio, business professor Dick Barkley, math professor Terry Green, art professor Jim Urmston and counselor Linda Webster were chosen for their commitment to teaching, ability to inspire students, communication skills and other qualities.

They each received $250, plus funds for instructional equipment.

The college also announced that Nathaniel Trives, a former Santa Monica mayor and Santa Monica College alumnus, has been appointed deputy superintendent of government relations. Trives has been acting in that position to replace Dale Ride, who died last fall.
