Chevron Agrees to Cleanup Request: The San Francisco-based oil firm has agreed to an Environmental Protection Agency request to investigate hazardous waste contamination at its Richmond, Calif., refinery. Chevron also agreed to report what it will do to clean up soil and ground water tainted with refining byproducts--heavy metals and organic compounds. The California Water Quality Control Board has also ordered Chevron to investigate and clean up contamination at the plant, which abuts San Pablo Bay in Northern California.
