From Times Staff and Wire Service Reports

A man who was apparently struck by a train near Chatsworth Park was found dead today near the entrance of a railroad tunnel, Los Angeles police said.

The body of the unidentified man, believed to be in his 20s, was found about 2 a.m. by two people who were hiking in the hills surrounding the park at the western end of Devonshire Street.

Lt. Harvie Eubank said that there was no identification on the body and that the victim appeared to be a transient. The body was found near the entrance to a tunnel that takes the Southern Pacific Railway tracks through the hills.

“It looked like he was clipped by a train,” Eubank said. “But we don’t know if something happened before that. At this time we are tentatively saying it was accidental.”

Eubank said an autopsy will be conducted.
