AMERICAN LEGION ROUNDUP : Las Virgenes Rallies Past Palmdale

Las Virgenes sent 12 batters to the plate in a seven-run eighth inning Saturday, turning a five-run deficit into a two-run advantage on the way to a 10-9 victory over Palmdale in an American Legion District 20 game.

With his team trailing, 8-3, in the top of the eighth, Paul Schaffer doubled home two runs. Brett Resnick, Tom Lynch and Geordie Wimmer each added run-scoring singles.

Two more runs scored on wild pitches for Las Virgenes (7-5).

Schaffer (two doubles) and Resnick each were four for six to pace a 15-hit attack.

In other games:

Conejo Valley 7, Simi Valley 5--Right-hander Tony Siegel (4-0) struck out seven, allowed no earned runs and picked up his first complete-game victory at Simi Valley (2-6).

Brett Herman was two for four for Conejo Valley (12-4).

Newhall-Saugus 6, Burbank 4--Steve Mann pounded a two-run home run, his fifth homer of the season, with two out in the bottom of the ninth to break a 4-4 tie and lift host Newhall-Saugus to the win.

Mann’s home run scored Oscar Silva, who had singled.

Erik Hiljus (3-1) recorded nine strikeouts for Newhall-Saugus (6-4) to run his season strikeout total to 42.

Quartz Hill 19, Chatsworth 2--Kendial Armstrong went four for five, including a home run, to pace a 15-hit barrage for host Quartz Hill.

Jim Weese hit a grand slam in the sixth for Quartz Hill (10-2), which scored six times in the sixth and seven times in the seventh.

Glendale 13, Encino-Crespi 3--Glendale scored in every inning but the third en route to a rout at Valley College.

Glendale’s Sean Regan had three hits, drove in two runs and scored twice. Brodie VanWagenen had three hits and Kyle Carden two for Encino-Crespi (2-9).

Agoura 9, Van Nuys 7--Zack Sterling was three for five with three RBIs and teammates Josh Smaler and Aaron Youhasz each had two hits to pace Agoura (7-5) in a game at Oak Park.

Vinnie Orlando had a double and a home run for Van Nuys (5-4).

Woodland Hills East d. San Fernando (forfeit)--Woodland Hills East improved to 10-2 when its opponent failed to show up.
