A Garden Grove man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of kidnaping after he forced his former roommate away from her residence at gunpoint, police said.

Police managed to talk Deaguino Rafael Bravo, 44, into releasing his hostage, Isabelle Pineda, 29, without incident.

The alleged kidnaping occurred about 5:25 p.m. when Bravo drove to Pineda’s residence in the 1100 block of South Center Street and accused her of stealing important documents from him, Police Sgt. Bob Clark said. Bravo and Pineda had been roommates until he kicked her out of his Garden Grove residence Saturday, Clark said.

Bravo searched Pineda’s residence but was unable to find the papers, police said. He then “produced a handgun and dragged the victim out of the house and into his car,” Clark said.

Several of Pineda’s relatives witnessed the incident and called police, authorities said.

Bravo drove Pineda to his house, police said, but he surrendered without hurting her shortly after officers arrived at the scene.

Bravo was taken to Orange County Jail, where his bail is set at $50,000.
