Clay to Be on NBC’s ‘Videos’

Controversial comedian Andrew Dice Clay, whose appearance last month on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” prompted two performers to withdraw, will be back on the network this weekend as guest host of the late-hour “Friday Night Videos.”

An NBC spokeswoman said Tuesday that the new, first-run broadcast is part of a two-show commitment with Clay for “Friday Night Videos,” and that he did the first one before the “Saturday Night Live” program that caused the furor.

When Clay, whose humor has been criticized as sexist, racist and homophobic, was booked for his May 12 “Saturday Night Live” appearance, cast member Nora Dunn and musical guest Sinead O’Connor withdrew. The night of the show, there were protests at the New York studio.

Apparently referring to Clay’s provocative material, the NBC spokeswoman said, “Unlike ‘Saturday Night Live,’ ‘Friday Night Videos’ is not live.” She said that Clay’s “Friday Night Videos” commitment was also made before his “Saturday Night Live” outing.
