A 52-year-old Vista man, bothered by noise in his apartment parking lot, threatened neighbors on Sycamore Avenue with a shotgun before he surrendered to sheriff’s deputies, the Sheriff’s Department said.

Elbert John Thawley, who lives in the 800 block of Sycamore Avenue, was reportedly seen on his second-floor balcony Monday, shortly after 8 p.m., pointing a shotgun at people in the parking lot, apparently in response to noise, said deputy Hollis Jones, of the Vista patrol station.

Sheriff’s deputies evacuated adjacent apartments and established telephone contact with Thawley, who surrendered without a fight. Deputies found a 12-gauge shotgun and five rounds of ammunition, Jones said.

Thawley was booked into County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, Jones said.
