CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : SAN DIEGO : Rapist Sentenced to 101 Years
A handyman who kidnaped, handcuffed and sexually assaulted a woman whose car had broken down on Interstate 8 was sentenced to 101 years in prison. Randall Turpin, 41, was found guilty on April 23 of multiple kidnaping, rape and robbery charges after a non-jury trial. He had been accused of handcuffing the woman and raping her after forcing her to look at pornographic magazines. The attack occurred Nov. 15 in rural east San Diego County after the woman’s car had broken down while she was driving from Los Angeles to Mexicali. Superior Court Judge Norbert Ehrenfreund said he hoped the length of the term would send a message that a woman’s body “is not to be used as a sex object, toy or something to satisfy deviant sexual desires.”
