Downey : Residents Say Their Many Crime Tips Got Few Results
- Share via
Residents of the Downey street where a Fullerton police officer was killed last week in a sting operation gone awry told the City Council on Tuesday that they had complained of illegal activity in their neighborhood for months with few results.
Members of the 22-member Neighborhood Watch group on Arrington Avenue asked the City Council to have police and other city employees work more closely with them to fight crime in the neighborhood.
The residents told of various crimes in their neighborhood, including a stabbing last September.
They also complained that they were endangered by the sting operation that ended in a gunfight. The operation involved officers from Fullerton, Anaheim and several other Orange County police departments who were investigating a cocaine ring that had been operating in their county.
Police Chief D. Clayton Mayes said he would meet with the residents.
