ANAHEIM : City’s Pet Licensing Will Affect 3 Fees

Senior citizens will be paying more to have their pets licensed under a new city-run licensing program, and cat owners will be paying the highest fees.

Anaheim is the first city to break with the county and begin its own licensing department, while retaining the county’s other animal services.

The cost of licensing dogs will drop from $22 to $18, but the cost for cat licenses will increase from $22 to $25. Prices for spayed and neutered pets are half the regular amount.

Under the county system, senior citizens who owned just one pet were given a 50% discount, but they will have to pay the standard fee under the city system.

The program was adopted by the City Council earlier this week and will take effect next month.

The county registered about 20,000 dogs in Anaheim last year but just a few dozen cats. The city stands to gain nearly $300,000 in annual revenue with the new system, which will be used to pay the county for its other animal control services.
