Trump Testifies for King Against Douglas
Donald Trump’s testimony in New York federal court Tuesday seemed to support promoter Don King’s claim that he was working in Buster Douglas’ best interests after Douglas had knocked out Mike Tyson in February.
In the trial of King’s breach-of-contract suit against Douglas and his manager, John Johnson, Trump testified that he began talking to King about a Douglas-Tyson rematch as early as the fifth round of the Tokyo fight to replace a Douglas-Evander Holyfield bout that Trump had bought for $12.5 million and tentatively scheduled for June 18 in Atlantic City. He added that talks continued after the fight.
Douglas and Johnson signed a contract with Steve Wynn’s Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas to fight for the Mirage, although Douglas has a promotional contract with King.
